The pendant is 43mm wide and 73mm long. It is shaped at the back so that it is comforting to rub while being worn.
This Breastplate is carved from pounamu we have collected from the Martyr River in the Haast Area of South Westland, on the West Coast of the South Island.
The Breastplate has an extremely strong, waxed nylon cord so the pendant can be worn ALL the time - even in any water. It is four strands of cord that have been hand platted into a special, round, 4-plait. The cord is adjustable by pinching the special knots between your thumb and finger and pulling.
It also has the ridge-knot binding on the top. This was one of the bindings traditionally used by the Maori to attach the pounamu to wooden and bone handles to use as tools and weapons.
Pendant Meaning: The Breastplate is a symbol of strength and offers protection to the wearer. This pendant protects it wearer from anything in life that is trying to harm them.
