The Pounamu for this Hei Matau was collected from the Marsden Valley in the Paroa Area, just outside of Greymouth on the West Coast of the South Island in New Zealand.
The Hei Matau has an extremely strong, waxed nylon cord so the pendant can be worn ALL the time. It has a hand platted, round, 4-plait cord with the traditional snood binding around the top. The cord is adjustable by pinching the special knots between your thumb and finger and pulling.
