This Hei Matau is carved from Pounamu that we have collected from the Marsden Valley in the Paroa area just outside of Greymouth on the West Coast of the South Island in New Zealand. It is the 'Marsden Flower Jade' and is called this because of the unique golden colours in the Pounamu (the flower) which is only found in the Marsden area.
The pendant is 62mm in length and 29mm at its widest.
The Hei Matau has a waxed nylon cord so the pendant can be worn ALL the time - even in any kind of water. It has a hand platted, round, 4-plait cord. The cord is adjustable by pinching the special knots between your thumb and finger and pulling.
The Hei Matau / hook gives the wearer strength and determination.
It brings peace, prosperity and good health.
It also provide the wearer with a safe journey through life - both a safe physical journey, especially over water and also helps them get through any hardships and tough times they may face.
