The Porohita is 42mm in diameter and approx. 9mm thick. Both sides of the Porohita are slightly shaped/scalloped. Both are smooth so that it is comforting to rub while being worn. It has the cord sitting in a special channel that runs right around the outside of the Porohita/disc.
The Porohita is carved from pounamu we have collected from the Marsden Valley in the Paroa area just outside of Greymouth on the West Coast of the South Island.
The Porohita has an extremely strong, waxed nylon cord so the pendant can be worn ALL the time - even in any kind of water. It is a special, hand platted, round, 4-plait cord. The cord is adjustable by pinching the special knots between your thumb and finger and pulling.
The Porohita / disc represents the circle of life which has no beginning or end. In life the opportunities are endless so with this pendant you can achieve whatever you want to in life.
