The Porohita is 37 mm long and 35mm wide.   It is carved from pounamu we have collected from the Marsden Valley in the Paroa Area just outside of Greymouth on the West Coast of the South Island in New Zealand.

The back of the Porohita is shaped/scalloped so that it is comforting to rub while it is worn.  However, it can be worn either way for two different looks.

The engraving on the front of the Porohita could represent people, places, events, accomplishments in the wearers life.  It is up to the wearer or person gifting the Taonga as to what meanings they have.

It also has a traditional ridge-knot binding along the top.  This was one of the bindings used by the Maori to attach the pounamu to wooden and bone handles to use as tools and weapons.

The Porohita has a waxed nylon cord so the pendant can be worn ALL the time - even in any kind of water.  The cord is adjustable by pinching the special knots between your thumb and finger and pulling.

Pendant  Meaning:  The Porohita / disc represents the circle of life which has no beginning or end.  In life the opportunities are endless so with this pendant you can achieve whatever you want to in life.
