The Porohita is 34mm in diameter. The back of the Porohita is shaped/scalloped so that it is comforting to rub while it is worn.
The Porohita is carved from pounamu we have collected from the Rimu Area which is just South of Hokitika, on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand.
The Porohita has an extremely strong, waxed nylon cord so the pendant can be worn ALL the time - even in any kind of water. The cord is adjustable by pinching the special knots between your thumb and finger and pulling.
Pendant Meaning: The Porohita / disc represents the circle of life which has no beginning or end. In life the opportunities are endless so with this pendant you can achieve whatever you want to in life.
On the front there is a carving. It has the Hei Matau/hook coming down into a Koru to represent the person wearing the Porohita. This will give the wearer strength and determination. It will bring them peace, prosperity and good health and also provide them with a safe journey through life - both a safe physical journey especially over water and also in helping them overcome any hardships or tough times they may face in life.
Coming up and around with their Koru is another Koru which can represent either one person or the Whanau/family. Like the two Koru it shows their lives coming together in love, friendship and harmony.
It also shows the person or Whanau/family coming around the person who wears the Porohita, giving them love, strength, support, protection and guidance throughout their life.
