The pendant is 43mm in length and 38mm at its widest. It can be worn either way for two different looks.
This square is carved from pounamu we have collected from the Marsden Valley in the Paroa Area just outside of Greymouth, on the West Coast of the South Island. It is the Putiputi Pounamu, the 'Marsden Flower Jade' which is named due to its intense green and unique golden, orange, yellow or creamy colours (the flower) in the stone, which is found in the Marsden Area.
The pendant has a waxed nylon cord. It has a hand platted, 4-plait cord. It is extremely strong and is made to be worn all the time - even in water. The cord is adjustable by pinching the special knots between your thumb and finger and pulling. This pendant has the traditional ridge-knot bindings along the top. This was one of the bindings the Maori traditionally used to attach the pounamu to wooden and bone handles to use as tools and weapons.
Pendant Meaning: The pendant has a special carving on the front - it is the ripple effect, when something is dropped in a pool of water and creates concentric ripples radiating outward.
