The pendant is 65mm in length and 43mm at its widest.
The Pounamu for this Hei Matau was collected from the Arahura River which runs between Greymouth and Hokitika, on the West Coast of the South Island in New Zealand.
The Hei Matau has an extremely strong, waxed nylon cord so the pendant can be worn ALL the time. It is a hand platted, round, 4-plait cord with the traditional snood binding around the top. The cord is adjustable by pinching the special knots between your thumb and finger and pulling.
The snood binding is one of the bindings traditionally used by the Maori to attach the Pounamu to wooden and bone handles to use as tools and weapons.
