The Fern is 60mm long and 32mm at its widest.
This Fern is carved from pounamu we have collected from the Marsden Valley in the Paroa area just outside of Greymouth on the West Coast of the South Island. It is the 'Marsden Flower Jade' and is called this due to the unique golden colours (the flower) in the stone which is found in the Marsden area.
The Fern has an extremely strong, waxed nylon cord so the pendant can be worn ALL the time - even in the water. The cord is adjustable by pinching the special knots between your thumb and finger and pulling.
The Fern started as the Koru – The Koru symbolizes the new shoots of the fern opening, representing new life, new beginnings, new direction, family, growth and harmony.
As the Fern is already opened it represents the power to draw on memories of family and friends.
The Fern was, and still is, highly recognized by the Maori for its healing properties as well.
If you are giving someone a fern as a gift, you are giving them the hope that they will have confidence, shelters, wealth, and happiness.
