This Hei Matau pendant is 50mm in length and 25mm at its widest.
The Hei Matau has a waxed nylon cord so the pendant can be worn ALL the time. It is extremely strong and made to be worn all the time - even in the water. The cord is adjustable by pinching the special knots between your thumb and finger and pulling.
The Hei Matau is shaped/scalloped at the back so that it is comforting to rub with your thumb when it is being worn.
The Pounamu (jade) for the Hei Matau was collected from the Marsden Valley in the Paroa area just outside of Greymouth on the West Coast of the South Island in New Zealand. It is the Putiputi Pounamu - The 'Marsden Flower Jade' and is called this due to the intense greens and unique golden, yellow, orange and creamy colours (the flower) in the stone which is found in the Marsden Area.
